"Zero-Tariff" Treatment Empowers a New Future for China-Africa Relations:
More Than a Preferential Policy, an Accelerator for Win-Win Development

发布时间:2026-07-06 15:51

The year 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the official establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa. Over the past seven decades, weathering storms together and passing the torch from generation to generation, China-Africa cooperation has consistently remained true to its original commitment to mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and win-win cooperation, serving as a prime example of global South-South cooperation. Since the beginning of this year, a series of measures, including the zero-tariff policy and the expansion of the "green channel" for African agricultural and food products entering China, have propelled China-Africa economic, trade, and strategic collaboration into a higher-quality and deeper stage of development, earning widespread recognition from various sectors across Africa.

Starting from May 1, China has fully implemented a zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic ties. It has also upgraded the "green channel" for agricultural imports, continuously easing market access for African products and streamlining customs clearance procedures. Coffee beans, dried chili peppers, and cashews from Africa can now be exported to China as long as they meet relevant requirements, without the need to sign individual market access protocols with the competent authorities of the respective countries one by one.

An article published on the website of Hong Kong's South China Morning Post noted that domestic consumption upgrading in China has opened up a vast market for specialty African agricultural products. The booming popularity of hotpot consumption in places like Hunan and Sichuan provinces has driven up demand for East African dried chilies. Renowned for their rich spiciness and low moisture content, these chilies are highly favored by domestic food processing companies. Meanwhile, the sustained boom in China's coffee consumption has also provided a sprawling market for African coffee beans.
