China-supported ICT project completed in Bangladesh

Dhaka, November 23 (Xinhua/Liu Chuntao)–"Development of National ICT Infra-Network for Bangladesh Government Phase-III (Info-Sarker Phase-3)", the project supported with Chinese funds and undertaken by Chinese companies, had its closing ceremony held on November 22 in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

This project is a key part of the "Digital Bangladesh" strategy. The Phase-III project expanded the network of Phase-I and Phase-II to the over 2600 administrative units on the grassroots level, extending the information highway from the capital to the whole nation of Bangladesh. The network now covers 62% of the Bangladeshi territory and population, namely around 100 million people. The project uses preferential loans from the Export-Import Bank of China, with China Railway International Group Co., Ltd (CRIG) as the general contractor and Huawei Technologies as the major subcontractor. 

At the ceremony, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the State Minister of Bangladesh for the ICT Division, expressed his gratitude to the CRIG and Huawei for their continuous support for the "Digital Bangladesh". 

A K Abdul Momen, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh pointed out that Info-Sarker Phase-3 is one of the important projects which has taken an important role in building digital Bangladesh. "In achieving this great infrastructure project, our friendly country China assisted us immensely," he said. 

Li Jiming, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, said the successful cooperation in ICT-related fields between China and Bangladesh helps the "Digital Silk Road" and "Digital Bangladesh" to further integrate and will benefit the people of the two countries. China, as a faithful friend and reliable strategic partner, is going to work with Bangladesh to explore more opportunities for cooperation in higher-end industries, as well as achieving a high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries, Li said.
