Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said Italy is determined to "speed up the installation of renewable energy and increase its share in the national energy mix." "Offshore energy could help the green transition process, while securing economic opportunities for countries with large coastal areas, such as Italy, promoting local value chains and synergies between blue economy's stakeholders," he said.
Mr. Li Junhua, Chinese Ambassador to Italy, who attended the ceremony, said that it’s the first wind power project between China and Italy, which is based on complementarity, mutual benefits and win-win results, and marks that the vision of green energy transition at both sides is turning into reality. China will continue to tap into the potential in green energy cooperation with Italy, so that the philosophy of “Lush mountains and lucid waters are invaluable assets” will become a highlight in China and Italy’s joint contribution to the green “Belt and Road”.
Mr. Wang Lihe, vice president of Ming Yang Smart Energy, said the project enhanced the exchange of offshore wind power technology and experience between Chinese and European companies, and contributed to international cooperation in promoting the development of clean energy and tackling climate change.
Mr. Giovanni Gugliotti, President of Province of Taranto, as well as over two hundred guests from all sectors in Italy, attended the ceremony.
