Hun Sen said that China and Cambodia are good brothers. Now, as the throughput capacity of Siem Reap Airport cannot meet demand from the rapid tourist development, China has provided timely assistance in building the Angkor International Airport,which, just like a rising star, will drive tourism in Siem Reap and its surrounding cities, and create more jobs for the locals.

Previously, in order to protect the historical heritage of Angkor Wat, the Cambodian government decided to choose another location for building the new Siem Reap airport. And three provincial state-owned enterprises from Yunnan Province, China, namely Yunnan Investment Holdings Ltd., Yunnan Construction and Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd., and Yunnan Airport Group Co., Ltd., jointly registered the Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd in Cambodia.

The 4E-level international airport under construction is located in Sotr Nikum District in the east of Siem Reap Province，about 40 km from the Angkor Archaeological Park and 51 km from Siem Reap provincial town, covering an area of 700 hectares, with surrounding commercial land of 1,000 hectares. In addition, another 24.5 kilometers of exclusive airport highways are also a part of the airport project that is open to independent operation.  The implementation of this project is of great significance for improving local infrastructure, increasing local employment rate, promoting tourism development and better protecting the heritage of Angkor Wat, etc.
