On the morning of October 28th, 2020, the Secretariat of 21st-Century Maritime Cooperation Committee was invited to attend the second meeting of the Manifesto 2020-2025 Development Committee, which was convened by the Secretariat of United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG ASPAC).

The second meeting of the Manifesto 2020-2025 Development Committee

Focusing on the discussion on the Draft Zero of Manifesto 2020-2025, the meeting was chaired by Dr. Bernadia Tjandradewi, Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC. The UCLG ASPAC Secretariat presented the issues mentioned in the Draft Zero, and representatives from Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ), All India Institute of Local Self-Government, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Fuzhou Municipality, Zhengzhou Municipality and other members proposed their opinions on the draft.

The representative from Fuzhou hoped that maritime cooperation can be included in the draft, such as cooperation on traditional and emerging marine industries, joint construction of smart ocean, sustainable coastal urbanization and marine ecological conservation. Secretary General Dr. Bernadia Tjandradewi agreed with Fuzhou’s proposal and gave an example that UCLG ASPAC has implemented joint projects with other international organizations to address marine plastic pollution. She looked forward to more inputs from members after the meeting and further discussions with members on the draft in future meetings.
