Ningde, commonly known as Mindong (East Fujian), is located in the northeast of Fujian Province and on the west coast of Taiwan Strait. Under its jurisdiction, there is one district, two county-level cities, six counties and one state-level economic development zone. It covers an area of 13,400 square kilometers and has a population of 3.52 million and 500,000 overseas Chinese and compatriots of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Ningde has abundant water and mountain resources. Ningde has a sea area of 44,500 square kilometers and coastline of 1,046 kilometers, both accounting for one third of those of Fujian Province. The oriental harbor Sandu Bay in particular, which is rare in the world and unique in China, has the largest deep-water area and the deepest shipping lines in the world. More than 150 berths that can handle ships above 30,000 tons are planned to be constructed. In addition, the total fresh water resource reaches 15 billion cubic meters. And the forest coverage rate is 67.18%.

Ningde has convenient transportation. Ningde is located in the middle of China’s golden coastline and at the center of three economic zones including Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and Taiwan. In next few years, Ningde will be the most convenient exit to the sea for central part of China. The natural harbor Sandu Bay is located at the central position of many international shipping lines on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean and China’s coastline from the north to the south, and has direct access to the main shipping lines of China and the world. In the future, Ningde will become a thoroughfare to the sea and a regional port logistics center for Fujian province to serve inland provinces and promote cooperation with Taiwan. 

Ningde has solid industrial base. Ningde has been speeding up upgrading traditional industries and fostering new industries. The key industries have been initially formed including new stainless steel materials, Lithium new energy, electric motors and appliances, ecological synthetic leathers, ship repairing, auto parts, food processing, biological medicine and so forth. The industries of new stainless steel material and Lithium new energy in particular has taken shape to become 100-billion-output -value industries. 

Ningde has beautiful ecological environment. Within its boundary, there is one world geopark, four state-level scenic spots and six provincial-level scenic spots. All the tourist attractions are integrated to design a tourism route known as “a hydrophilic tour in northeast Fujian Province”, which was chosen as one of the ten best tourism routes in China by CCTV Economic Channel.

Ningde has profound cultural foundation. Ningde is the largest settlement for She ethnic group in China. There are around 180,000 She people, accounting for a half and a quarter of that of Fujian Province and China respectively. It has abundant distinctive local cultures such as She minority culture, wooden arcade bridge culture, folk religion culture, marine culture, tea culture and red culture. In Ningde, there are more than 40 provincial, national or world class intangible cultural heritages, 47 China’s renowned historical and cultural towns (villages), traditional Chinese villages, and Fujian’s historical and cultural towns (villages). 

Ningde has abundant local products. It abounds with superior fruits, vegetables and marine products, enjoying the title of town of tea, radix pseudostellariae, big yellow croaker, scissors, white tea, sea kelp, seaweed, late-maturing longan, southern grape and edible fungi, and also the land of longevity. Ningde is a city rich in tea, with “Fuding White Tea”, “Panyong Congou”, “Tianshan Green Tea”, “Shouning Alpine Tea” and other tea brands renowned at home and abroad.
