The Kiribati Local Government Association (KiLGA) has 23 members, including local councils on each of the inhabited islands of Kiribati with three of them urban councils. The councils’ main functions and powers relate to agriculture, livestock, fisheries, buildings, town or village planning, education, forestry, trees, land, relief of famine, drought, markets, public health, pubic order, peace and safety, communications, pubic utilities, trade & industry and miscellaneous matters. The KiLGA provides services including decentralization process, cooperation framework with IGO, INGO, NGO and other international agency, capacity building in sustainable development.
