Kazan is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. Ample scenic spots and historical resorts have placed Kazan as one of the three A-level cultural and historical cities in Russia. Importantly, Kazan is also a railway junction, a river port of large scale, an industrial and financial hub, as well as a center for traffics and commodity distribution in the middle range of Volga River. Among the 29 universities in Kazan, Kazan State University is the very campus where Vladimir Lenin and Leo Tolstoy, two figures of worldwide influence, once lived, and Kazan State University of Research and Technology is advanced in aeronautic engineering, computer sciences and wireless communication across Russia. Its football club is named FC Rubin Kazan. In 2009, Kazan was conferred the title of “the Sports Capital”.
