The Outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan calls for pursuing land-sea coordination, enhancing the nation’s capacity to manage marine affairs, and accelerating the development of a strong maritime country. China is charting a path towards maritime prosperity with its own distinctive characteristics.
From conquering the “three crown jewels” of the shipbuilding industry to building major instruments of national strength such as the Jiaolong, the Mengxiang, and the Deep Sea No. 1, China’s marine science and technology have emerged with formidable strength, empowering the robust growth of the marine economy.
Since the dawn of the new era, China has deeply engaged in global ocean governance. We have strengthened global marine scientific research and exploration, disaster prevention and mitigation, and blue economy cooperation. Furthermore, China has advanced the construction of the "Belt and Road" International Port Alliance, improved cooperation mechanisms with partner countries co-building the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road," and actively promoted the building of a maritime community with a shared future.
The ocean remains silent yet sustains all life; humanity holds the responsibility and must safeguard the deep blue. On this World Oceans Day, let us start with reverence and respond with action—for the sake of that deep blue that nurtures life, and for our shared future.
