China-Aided Poverty Alleviation Project Brings Great Changes to Remote Poor Village in Cambodia

TIME:2024-05-15 17:56

Once a poor, isolated and quiet village in Cambodia's remote area, Tanorn village has now become a modern one with well-established basic physical infrastructure under a China-aided poverty alleviation project. Located in Takeo province's Bati district, about 60 km south of capital Phnom Penh, the Tanorn village has a total area of 72 hectares and is currently home to 132 households with more than 600 people.

The project has been carried out by the Cambodian Civil Society Alliance Forum (CSAF), with funds from the China Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD). An inauguration ceremony of the Cambodia-China Friendship Multipurpose Building in the village was held on Sunday.

Located in the center of the village, the two-storey Multipurpose Building is a place for villagers to carry out religious activities, major festival celebrations, cultural exchanges, villagers' meetings, and skills training.

The tiny village has experienced enormous changes since January 2021 when the Cambodia-China Friendship Village for Poverty Alleviation Project was launched here. Under the project, concrete roads, clean water system, solar power, drainage system for flood prevention, and essential public facilities have been developed.
