April, Dec. 20 (Fujian Daily/ Li Ke, Gao Ling) Dongfang Electric Co., Ltd., Dongfang Electric (Fujian) Innovation Research Institute Co., Ltd, Shenzhen University and the Xie Heping Academician Team of Sichuan University signed a four-party cooperation agreement on "pilot testing and industrialization of original technology of seawater desalination-free in-situ direct electrolytic hydrogen production". According to the agreement, Dongfang Electric (Fujian) Innovation Research Institute Co., Ltd. will share the intellectual property of the technology of seawater desalination-free in-situ direct electrolytic hydrogen production, and will undertake the task of pilot testing, demonstration and industrialization. This means that this revolutionary scientific achievement has officially been introduced to Fuzhou, which will strongly promote the leapfrog development of hydrogen energy industry in Fujian Province.
Recently, Academician Xie Heping's team has made a major breakthrough in the field of direct hydrogen production from seawater, and published a paper in the journal of Nature.
This research is the first to establish the new principle and technology of in situ direct electrolytic hydrogen production from seawater without desalination driven by phase change migration from a new path of combining physical mechanics and electrochemistry.
Xie Heping, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, pointed out that the original technology of seawater desalination-free in-situ direct electrolytic hydrogen production was expected to break the existing inherent thinking that pure water must be supplied to the system for hydrogen production from electrolytic water. He said that the technology could lead to a full-chain zero-carbon hydrogen energy development path with the industrial model of hydrogen production by direct electrolysis of seawater that features original mechanics, revolutionary technology, and Chinese equipment. Collaborative innovation with Dongfang Electric Group, the leading Chinese central state-owned enterprise in the field of hydrogen energy, can accelerate the application of this scientific achievement, said the academician.
Zhang Yanjun, the member of the party leadership group of Dongfang Electric Co., Ltd. and the deputy general manager of the company, said that this joint promotion of the technology of seawater desalination-free in-situ direct electrolytic hydrogen production is in line with the current national strategy of China and the enterprise’s development needs.
