A vast lush Casuarina shelter belt stretches along the coast in the bright spring sunshine. On March 16, a voluntary tree planting activity was carried out at the site of a landscape improvement project covering the line from Baihu’ao Beach to Wanxin Road in Binhai New Town, Fuzhou City, in a bid to advance the construction of the third “one-hundred-meter section” of the local coastal shelter belt.

During an inspection tour in Fujian Province last March, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that Fuzhou is a blessed city with unique ecological conditions, and expressed his hope for this coastal city with lucid water and lush mountains to be developed into an even better one for people’s well-being. 

Over the past year, on basis of thoroughly studying and implementing the guiding principles from General Secretary Xi Jinping’s major speeches, following the principles of putting people at the centre and conserving the ecology for people’s benefits, the government of Fuzhou has been making full efforts in developing this coastal city with lucid water and lush mountains in accordance with the urban development plan of “expanding eastwards and southwards, along the rivers and towards the ocean”. To date, a green shelter belt of over 21 kilometers has taken shape, serving as a strong ecological protection for the building of Binhai New Town.
