Look! Marine Industry Thrives in the Dinghai Bay

TIME:2022-07-11 09:57

The Dinghai Bay is an "experimental field" for deep-sea aquaculture

in Fuzhou City.

Yesterday, the front page of People's Daily praised the smart "Marine Ranch" in Dinghai Bay, Xiaocheng Town with the title of Marine Industry in Lianjiang County, Fujian Province Contributes to Rural Revitalization.

It’s learned that the Dinghai Bay, which has received much attention, is striving to develop a booming marine industry. Five ecological aquaculture platforms (for an annual output of ten thousand tons of large yellow croaker) have been put into use one after another to form a "deep-sea aquaculture fleet". Clove fish, abalone, large yellow croaker and other seafood are sold to overseas markets, topping the rankings in China. The Dinghai Ancient City, the Thirty-Six Reefs and other coastal scenery are linked to create a "maritime gallery" along the "most beautiful coastline".

The "deep-sea aquaculture fleet" assemble.

Fujian Province has earned the largest amount of foreign exchange in China through the export of clove fish, large yellow croaker and abalone, with the output of large yellow croaker and abalone accounting for more than 80 percent of the national total respectively.

The Dinghai Bay is one of the renowned "three bays" in Lianjiang County, with a sea area of 135 square kilometers. Located at the estuaries of the Minjiang River and the Aojiang River, the Dinghai Bay boasts lucid water and moderate nutritive salts, becoming the "experimental field" for deep-sea aquaculture in Fuzhou City.

As the forerunner of deep-sea aquaculture in China, Fuzhou City has successively put into use eight deep-sea aquaculture platforms in Lianjiang County since 2018, five of which are in the Dinghai Bay to cultivate large yellow croaker and other marine fish.

"Zhenyu No.1", China's first deep-sea mechanized aquaculture platform for large yellow croaker, stands firmly in the waves of the Dinghai Bay like a steel castle.

According to a staff from the Ocean and Fishery Bureau of Lianjiang County, "Zhenyu No.1" and other platforms boast the advantages of smart and ecological aquaculture compared to the first-generation wooden fishing raft and the second-generation plastic fishing raft. Through integrating technologies such as wind power generation, 5G base station, effluent collection, high-definition monitoring of fish flocking, "Zhenyu No.1" is able to automatically monitor the pH, salinity and oxygen content of the seawater. Aquaculture farmers only need to download an APP to master the monitoring situation of the entire platform, so that they can "know well about the situation only with a mobile phone in hand". The deep-sea aquaculture platform with fast water flow, good water quality and large water bodies provides a "gym" and "racetrack" for the fish. Thus, the large yellow croaker produced here is of better quality and higher price.

The Dinghai Bay is also a marine ranch for clove fish and abalone. The annual output of clove fish in the Dinghai Bay ranks first in Fujian Province, with the clove fish listed in the protected products of the national geographical trademark. Abalone breeding bases covering hundreds of acres in the area produce high-quality abalone for Fuzhou Rixing Aquatic Products Co., Ltd., which has been exported to more than 20 countries like Japan after intensive processing.

Soon, the MW909-1# marine fish aquaculture platform and the Hongdong, Lianjiang's first smart fishery and tour platform, will join the "deep-sea aquaculture fleet" in the Dinghai Bay. Its learned that the Hongdong has a recreational fishery center, a marine science education center as well as a ding and lodging area, and can provide tourists with a one-stop and immersive fishing and travel experience.

Five major tourist resorts are under construction.

The construction of the "marine ranch" integrating fishery and tour is an epitome of Lianjiang's endeavors in building "the most beautiful coastline".

The Dinghai Bay has been long known as the "maritime gallery". The coastal scenery such as the Dinghai Ten Scenic Spots and the Thirty-Six Reefs has made it gain the reputation of "Fuzhou's Top Ten Coastal Cultural Landscapes", "Fuzhou's Most Beautiful Bay" and "The Maldives in Fuzhou".

According to an official from the Xiaocheng Township People’s Government, the town is developing five major tourist resorts to build the "maritime gallery" along "the most beautiful coastline". The five major tourist resorts include a high-end coastal tourist resort with the Dinghai Bay Mountain and Water Sports Town as the core project, a marine experience and leisure tourist resort with the Guanwu Fisherman Island as the core project, an ancient city cultural tourist resort with the Dinghai Ancient City Protection and Development as the core project, the coastal agricultural sightseeing tourist resort with the Nanshan Mountain Tourism Development as the core project, a business tourist resort with marine distinctive features with the Sea View Lodging as the core project.
