  地中海航运集团全球执行副总裁查尔斯·达尔:员工是能源转型的核心

In the 1970s, Gianluigi Aponte led the development of the Mediterranean Shipping company from a humble, one-ship company to the world leader in container shipping today. The company has achieved exponential growth in both volume and capacity, and we now serve millions of customers around the world year-round.

On the road to net zero, we have taken many effective steps. For example, we are optimizing energy efficiency equipment related to ship engines, adopting data-driven ship management systems, using machine learning to improve the quality of analysis, and setting up the MSC Ship Management Program to measure fleet fuel consumption under different sailing conditions. A range of initiatives such as real-time weather forecasting to determine the best routes and speeds to improve ship efficiency and optimize ship routing.

At present, Mediterranean Shipping is actively exploring a number of alternative fuel and propulsion system solutions to bring us closer to our "net zero" goal.

We believe that employees are at the heart of the energy transition. As the industry decarbonises, we are actively training our employees to upgrade or re-skill to ensure that crews can operate the next generation of engines safely and efficiently. Our offshore staff will have the new expertise to embrace new types of vessels using low - and zero-carbon fuels and technologies. Mediterranean shipping companies are identifying new training for employees working at sea.
